There is good news for the traditional medicine seekers. The State Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) Directorate of State Government will have adequate medicine supply by this week. Because of technical faults the department had been facing medicine crunch for last three years. The recent State Budget is the reason for this swift action.
“This decision for medicine supply was approved on the request of State AYUSH Directorate Director Dr. SN Jha to the State Health Department Secretary K Vidyasagar after the two tenders released this year for this medicine supply could not be fulfilled. These two tenders for medicine suppliers were released after State Budget’s concern for AYUSH Directorate,” said Dr. SN Jha, Director of State AYUSH Directorate.
Similar to other Government health sectors, this department too provides free check up and medicines but keeping the medicine shortage in consideration the doctors here were bound to prescribe patients to purchase medicines from private chemist shops.
Medical Officer Dr. SN Singh at this department said, “Everyday as many as 14 patients come for Ayurveda treatment, 25 for homeopathy and 10 for Unani. We can only prescribe them. After years we would be providing medicines to our patients.”
Jha informed patients often blame them for illegal medicines sale as a reason for this long term medicine non-availability.
It is to be noticed, the main three concerned wings of AYUSH namely Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy must have at least three tender suppliers for medicines but unfortunately none are able to fulfil the criteria till date.
“The State Health department has also approved the medicines funds to be granted from National Health Mission,” Jha added.
The AYUSH department had been managing with staff shortage since long. Early, this month, the State Government has announced to trigger the recruitment service within a period of two months. [Source]
