AYUSH information centre opened in Port of Spain

“AYUSH Information Centre” set up at High Commission of India, 6 Victoria Avenue, Port-of- Spain was formally inaugurated by Minister of Local Government and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Surujrattan Rambachan and High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Malay Mishra last Wednesday (July 25).

This is the second such centre in the world after Malaysia. The objective of the centre is to promote and spread the awareness of Ayurveda along with other traditional medicine systems, including Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (for which the acronym AYUSH stands).

It will also complement the Ayurveda Chair which is scheduled to be set up in UWI by September and for which MOU was been signed between India and TT in January. Among those in attendance at the opening of the centre was Dr Maurice, advisar to Health Minister, Dr Fuad Khan. After the opening remarks by the High Commissioner and addresses by Drs Rambachan and Maurice, a presentation was made by Dr Anusha Vaideeswaran, an Ayurvedic Consultant from India based in Trinidad, on Ayurveda, giving an in-depth insight into its various aspects.

The event was well attended by various doctors and practitioners and professionals from UWI working in the research area of herbs. A short film on Ayurveda was also screened. A range of herbal medicines and personal care items manufactured by ‘Himalaya Drug Company’ was also displayed and samples distributed to promote the Ayurveda products, by its brand manager, Kesh Ramjagessar and his team from Bryden Pi Ltd.
