How to prepare for ESI Medical Officer (Homeopathy) Examination

ESI Corporation offering excellent carrier opportunities for young homoeopaths through their medical officer examination. Selected doctors will be posted as medical officers in various ESI dispensaries with attractive salary. Rs. 8000-275-13,500/- plus non-practicing allowance as admissible to analogous posts in the Central Health Service. Revised pay (after implementation of 6th C.P.C.) PB-03, Rs.15600-39100/- plus Grade Pay Rs.6600/- It is high time for the aspirants to fine tune their strategy.  We are living in an era of tough competition. Unless & until you have a well planned strategy you will miss the target.

A concise idea  about all the 12 subjects of BHMS syllabus is required- with more importance to clinical subjects. Normal biochemical values, Death Certificate, Medical certificates etc. Common disease with their aetiology, clinical features, diagnosis with Homoeopathic medicines. The breakup of papers  shows that maximum questions are asked from clinical subjects. So the candidates should give more time for these  subjects. If you can score well in these subjects half the battle is won. But you should not neglect other subjects also.

Examinations
Examinations will be held at Delhi on 25th October 2009. In this exam  multiple choice questions will be asked. Lack of familiarity with MCQ may result in unexpected failure. A candidate who had revised the previous year’s questions had a definite advantage over a candidate who had not.

Total 5 hours : ( 3 hrs in morning & 2 hrs in after noon)

Questions will be of UPSC standard

Candidates Should have a thorough knowledge of all medicines in Key note. Generally many questions are asked from Relationship part of the book. Candidates  should recollect comparison that is given in the book. A detailed understanding of Boericke`s materia medica is also  expected. Questions regarding Common name of drugs are also asked. Family wise study of medicine should be done.

Questions regarding History of repertory, different repertories their philosophical background, year of publications, word  meaning, grading of rubrics, Computer repertories, Card repertories are asked usually. Some rubrics with their chapters,  rubrics in Kent’s repertory in which only one medicine is given are also asked

Questions regarding drug preparation, Pharmacopoea, source of drugs, rules& regulations are asked usually.

For other subjects prescribed text book of the B.H.M.S course can be used. MCQ questions of these subjects can be read from  the post graduate entrance guides mentioned below.

An up-to-date knowledge about various occupational diseases affecting employees (etiology, clinical features, complications, management, homeopathic remedies, rubrics etc..) is required along with its impact on national economy.

HISTORY
The promulgation of employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948(ESI Act), by the Parliament was the first major legislation on social Security for workers in independent India. It was a time when the industry was still in a nascent stage and the country was heavily dependent on an assortment of imported goods from the developed or fast developing countries.

The ESI Act 1948, encompasses certain health related eventualities that the workers are generally exposed to; such as sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent disablement, Occupational disease or death due to employment injury, resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity-total or partial. Social security provision made in the Act to counterbalance or negate the resulting physical or financial distress in such contingencies, are thus, aimed at upholding human dignity in times of crises through protection from deprivation, destitution and social degradation while enabling the society the retention and continuity of a socially useful and productive manpower.

COVERAGE

  • The ESI Act 1948 enacted on 19th April 1948 provide for certain benefits to the employees in case of sickness, maternity and employment injury and to make provisions for certain other matters in relation thereto.
  • The ESI Act 1948 in the first instance, applies to
  • Factories using power in the manufacturing process and employing 10 or more persons
  • Non-power using factories or establishments employing 20 or more persons for wages.

The provision of the Act are being implemented area wise by stages. The Act contains an enabling provision under which the Appropriate Government is empowered to extend the provision of the Act to other classes of establishments–

  • Industrial
  • Commercial
  • Agricultural or otherwise

Under these provisions State Governments have extended the provisions of the ESI Act to the following classes of establishments.

  • Shops
  • Hotels & Restaurants
  • Cinemas, including preview theaters
  • Road Motor Transport Undertakings
  • Newspaper establishments

The ESI Act is applicable to over two lakh industrial units, across the length and breadth of the country.

CONTRIBUTION

  1. Contribution is the amount payable to the Corporation by the principal employer in respect of an employee and comprises the amount payable by the employee and the employer.
  2. The scheme is primarily funded by contribution raised from insured employees and their employers in the implemented areas as a small but specified percentage of wages payable to such employees.
  3. The rates of contribution as of now are:-
  4. Employees’ contribution-1.75 percent of the wages
  5. Employers’ contribution-4.75 percent of the wages
  6. Total-6.50 percent of the wages

It is obligatory on the part of the employer to calculate and remit ESI Contribution comprising of employers’ share 4.75% plus employees’ share of 1.75% which is payable on or before 21st of the following month, to the month to which the salary relates. If the employee is drawing upto Rs.50/- as daily average wage, he is exempt from the payment of his share of contribution. The employer is however to pay employer’s share of 4.75% of the salary received/receivable by the employee.

The State Govt. bears one-eight share of expenditure on medical benefits with in the per capita ceiling of Rs.1000/- per I.P. family per annum.

MEDICAL-BENEFITS
Insured persons and their dependants are entitled to full medical care from day one of taking up employment in any factory or establishment covered under the ESI Act 1948. The comprehensive package includes primary medical care, specialist and diagnostic services, in-patient care with provision for all super specialist facilities.

SICKNESS-BENEFITS
Sickness Benefit is paid in cash to the insured persons to compensate their loss of wages in the event of sickness certified by an authorized medical officer. It is admissible for 91 days in an year and the cash benefit is equal to 50% of the wages.

MATERNITY-BENEFITS
Maternity Benefit is admissible to insured women in the event of confinement or miscarriage etc. for 12 weeks and the rate of about 100 percent of the wages

DISABLEMENT-BENEFITS
Temporary Disablement benefit is paid in cash till the incapacity due to employment injury lasts at the rate of 70% of the wages. In case of permanent physical disablement due to employment injury or occupational disease, disablement benefit is paid for life at a rate proportionate to loss of earning capacity as determined by the medical board.

DEPENDANTS-BENEFITS
Dependants benefit is paid as family pension to the dependants of a deceased insured person in the event of death due to employment injury or occupational disease and is equivalent to about 70% of the wages.
