Lucknow-appointment of AYUSH doctors put on hold

Taking note of allegations of corruption in the appointment of 32 Ayush doctors in Gonda, the state government has ordered a probe and put on hold such contractual appointments in all the districts till it gets the report. Not just the appointments, the government will also probe procurement of drugs, organisation of health camps and distribution of cheques under Janani Surksha Yojana by chief medical officers (CMOs) in all the districts.

“We have got the information that CMOs have committed irregularities in the recruitment of staff and procurement of drugs. I would expose the corrupt chief medical officers and recommend action against them,” said health and family welfare minister Ahmed Hasan on Saturday.

The health and family welfare department moved into action mode after former minister of state for revenue and rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh leveled the allegations of corruption against Gonda chief medical officer Dr SP Singh.

The spokesperson for the state government on Saturday said that though the selection of 32 AYUSH doctors had been completed in Gonda, they would be handed over the appointment letters only after the completion of the probe.

Sources said strict action would be initiated against Gonda chief medical officer if any irregularities were detected in the appointments. Most of the selected candidates were from other districts, the sources added.

Talking to HT, Dr Singh said, “The selection of the AYUSH doctor was transparent. The six- member district health committee headed by the district magistrate did the recruitment”.

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has also started the probe against the chief medical officers (CMO) and chief medical superintendents (CMS) involved in multi- crore-medicine procurement scam.

The chief medical officers posted in various districts have purchased drug from various pharmaceutical companies without rate contract.[Source]
