Maharashtra Homeopaths want All India Institute in Nagpur

slider2-homeobookThey have sought help of city MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to get this request across to the central Health Ministry and Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH).

“There’s negligible research in homeopathy being done in Maharashtra. There is not even one government-run homeopathy college in the state. In the city, there is a huge gap left by the closing of the very prestigious 60-year-old Nagpur College of Homeopathy last year, which may also be filled up this new institute,” said Dr Manish Patil, president of the association. Central Council for Research in Homeopathy has also shown interest in the project and they also have funds, he added.

The building of Nagpur College of Homeopathy, now not in use, can be turned into a government-run institute by the government taking it over, suggested Dr Subhash Raut from Homoeopathic Integrated Medical Practitioners Association of Maharashtra (HIMPAM).

He said the state has generally been unfair and disinterested in the development of homeopathy so the practitioners of the science have had to approach several ministers. The doctors are happy with the positivity with which the new government has responded to their request and hope the request would be acted upon soon.

President of Maharashtra Council of Homeopathy Dr Bahubali Shah informed that the last government had decided that institutes like NIH would be opened at many other places but that couldn’t happen. “States like Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are doing much to further homeopathy.

In Maharashtra, though, absence of a good, fixed pay scale job opportunities in the government sector for the homeopaths has hampered this development. The other states have many government colleges of homeopathy with teachers and doctors having good scope of practice ,” he said. He stressed on the need for the department of AYUSH of the state government and the health department to change this situation.[Source]
