The book Repertory of psychic medicines with material medica is written by Dr.Jean Pierre Gallavardin.It is translated from the original French & second edition corrected by Raj Kumar Mukherji. M.A [French] LHMS. The original notes, manuscripts &publications are collected & arranged by Dr.Emm Gallavardin.The book is published by B.Jain publishers & printed in India by J.J offset printers. The first edition of book is in 1983;second edition in 1986 & reprinted in 1989.The book used for book review is a reprint edition of 1989 & its prize is Rs.25

The book contains an introduction & three chapters [Plastic medicine, pathogenesis of psychic medicines & repertory of psychic medicines]

Introduction
Introduction is written by Dr.Emm Gallavardin. It contains a quote of Georges Duhamei & extract from work ‘The medicine judged by the doctors’ by Guyard.All medicinal substances produces some psychic & somatic symptoms. Dr, J.P Gallavardin researched in psychic manifestation of remedies. His works are published as two parts.

It is a posthumous work. The medicines described in this work are prepared according to korsakovian method

Plastic medicine
Plastic medicines are the medicines, which modifies some parts of the body as regards their formations & colour
. Plastic medicines can be found out by pathogenetic experiments on healthy man or clinically on patients by the medicines having an elective action on parts of the body to be modified. Plastic medicines increase the plumpness of parts by increasing the nutrition, disappears the folds & wrinkles by repletion of tissues, diminishes the plumpness by diminishing the nutrition, gives colour by causing the flow of blood. Single dose of remedy is used in 200 dilution & let to act for 3, 5,8 weeks. Twenty-one cases are given with medicines.

  • Breasts almost disappeared – Iodum 200
  • Breasts not developed – Ignatia 200
  • Obesity of belly –Nux vomica 200
  • Deformed breasts after feeding or delivery – puls, bry, bell, merc vivus
  • Breasts too big – Nux 200
  • Obesity of belly – Nux 1M; Using Nux 200 in many women, obesity of belly is cured. When the obesity is the result of pregnancy & if the rupture of white line produces it, plastic medicines are useless & plastic surgery must be done.
  • Whiteness of skin – Merc.cyanatus 3
  • Eyes surrounded with blue aura—staphisagria, china, and phosphoric acid

In the last part of chapter a repertory of plastic medicine is given. Ruberics are given in ordinary letters. Medicines are represented in 3 typographies. [Capital, roman, and roman in parenthesis.] Rubrics & medicines are given as separate lines. Subruberics are preceded by a hifun. With some medicines potency is also given.

While giving medicines, to make a part bigger give the remedy during the increasing moon, 2,3,4 day after the full moon. To diminish the plumpness of a part gives the remedy during decreasing moon 2,3,4 day after the full moon. During the full moon generally the weight is 1 – 3 pounds more, which is lost during the decreasing moon, & one regains it during the increasing moon.

Pathogeneses of Psychic Medicines
64 medicines are given with their symptoms. It includes two groups of pathogeneses. One is collected out of different repertories of homoeopath authors. Other is developed by the help of personal experience. Under drugs, symptoms are arranged in following headings; mind, intellect, pure indications, clinical indications, consecutive symptoms. Symptoms are given in 4 typographies. [Capitals, bold roman, italics, roman] Under some drugs, symptoms from materiamedica pura with page numbers are given. With some symptoms name of the authors or persons who contributed the symptom is given. In some drugs clinical indication is indicated by symbol ‘x’. [Bryonia]

Repertory of psychic medicine
It contains symptoms related to mental sphere. Rubrics are arranged in alphabetical order. Rubrics & medicines are given as separate line in which medicines are preceded by a space. Subruberics are preceded by a hyphen with medicines in same line or separate line. Rubrics & subrubrics are given in ordinary roman. Rubrics are modified by specifications, which are given in brackets. Synonyms are given along with the rubrics. Crossreferences are given as a separate line after medicines in parenthesis. Medicines are given in following typography [bold capital, bold roman ordinary roman]. Along with some medicines the name of the author who added the medicine or the journal or book from which additions are taken is given in parenthesis. Along with some medicine potency, duration of action, and follow up remedies are given. In the last part of repertory, a repertory for psychic symptoms of animals is given.

At the beginning of the repertory 15 medicines are given in particular order. These medicines are indicated for the amelioration of the somatic & psychic condition of each individual & should be given in the following order & let to act for two months. Each remedy should be used in 200 dilutions.

Under some rubrics medicines are given in particular order. It means from that group most indicated remedy is given & the following medicines are given in that particular order. Each Remedy must be given in 200 dilutions & let to act for two months. Along with some rubrics ‘{D-J}’ is given. It means notes of Dulac on Jahr.

Merits

  1. Mental symptoms, which are not found in other repertories, are seen. It covers almost all the symptoms of mental sphere.
  2. Repertory for psychic symptoms of animals is a unique feature.
  3. Some medicines are given with duration of action & potency.

Demerits

  1. The author advises to use 200 dilutions. But the book contains cases with other range of dilutions [300,600,1000 etc.]
  2. Materia medica & repertory contains many typographies whose indications are not mentioned
  3. In Materia medica pathogeneses are said to be divided in to two groups whose clear-cut indications are not given
  4. Medicines are arranged in haphazard manner under rubrics
  5. The headings of pathogeneses of drugs are not clarified.
  6. Repertory does not follow a strict systematic arrangement.
  7. The number of medicines is less when compared to other repertories
