Why modern pharmacology courses for Homoeopaths in Maharashtra?
Dr Mansoor Ali
As per the direction of state Government Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) decided to start one-year part-time course in Modern Pharmacology for Homoeopathy doctors of Maharashtra in 19 Allopathy Hospitals with an average intake 950 admissions per year.
Homoeopathy organisations, Colleges and CCH members from Maharashtra miserably failed in creating job opportunities and confidence to private practice among Homoeopaths in that state.
Talented students after completing the course are in the dark and unable to decide upon the future and simply joining in allopathic hospitals as RMOs.
Government job and private practice are the two major attractions after BHMS. It is shameful to realise that No Govt Homoeopathy dispensaries, No Govt Homoeopathy Medical Colleges and No Govt homoeopathy hospitals in a big state like Maharashtra.More than 45 Homoeopathy Colleges in private sector – only few among them imparting good educations. Many teachers even practice allopathy. Faulty education is also a major reason.
The highlighted attraction of election manifesto of CCH members from the state was “Permission to allopathic practice to Homoeopaths”. – that is the reason for starting Modern Pharmacology courses for Homoeopaths.
The only benefit – Private Homoeopathy colleges may get more admission – since this is a legally valid shortcut for allopathy practice.
Still MH homoeopaths electing these Mongrels to CCH. College owners are regulators in Homoeopathy – sad state of Central Council of Homoeopathy. Many of the colleges are owned by politicians and few by CCH members !!
No employment opportunities have further compelled these doctors to practice allopathy to survive in life. Placement is the major factor attracting new generation students …that is very less in MH.
Maharashtra has around 70,000 homoeopaths who are looking forward to exploit this course to practice allopathy (not all, but many) with a legal protection. This is a well-known fact that more than 90 percent homeopaths in Maharashtra already practice allopathy with a homoeopathic degree.
Kerala is a small state compared to Maharashtra. Because of the constant pressure by the homoeopathy associations and leaders of homeopathy , Govt started more and more dispensaries and hospitals. Currently they have more than 1000 medical officers post in various segments. District hospitals in all districts. Govt. dispensaries in all panchayats. All the teachers irrespective of Govt or Aided getting UGC scale salary. This may be the situation in many other states of India. But Maharashtra homoepathy organizations and leaders not worked in that line.
