ABSTRACT:
A retrospective observational study was done to assess the efficacy of Homoeopathy as a treatment option for PCOS. 60 female patients between the age group of 18 to 45 years, who were diagnosed cases of PCOS, were observed for a duration of 1 year. Patient’s monthly progress and clinical outcomes up to one year of starting therapy were noted. The final result of the study was recorded after 1 year of starting therapy.

OBJECTIVE:

  • The primary objective of the study was to assess the efficacy of homoeopathy as a treatment option for PCOS
  • The secondary objective was to assess safety and feasibility of Homoeopathic remedies in PCOS management.

INTRODUCTION :
PCOS ( Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)  is one of the most common endocrinopathies affecting women.  PCOS is a disorder of chronically abnormal ovarian function and hyperandrogenism.It is largely a lifestyle related disease in women of reproductive age group

One out of 10 women in India suffer from  PCOS .

PCOS is characterized by the following:

  • a menstrual cycle that ranges from > 35 days or < 8 cycles/year to complete absence of menses (amenorrhea);
  • evidence of androgen excess, such as acne, hirsutism, alopecia, acanthosis nigricans, or increased androgen levels on laboratory testing;
  • all other causes of hyperandrogenism and anovulation have been excluded.

Successful interdisciplinary cross-linking of efforts is stymied by the lack of awareness about PCOS and guidelines addressing its management. Homoeopathy as a treatment modality may add substantial value to the paradigm of PCOS management.

MATERIALS AND METHOD:

A retrospective observational study of 60 female patients, between the age group of 18 to 45 years, who were diagnosed cases of PCOS was carried out at the clinic.

The data regarding patients demographics, past and family history, physical constitution, physical general symptoms, the mental symptoms and life space and the homoeopathic remedy prescribed was assessed.

Patient’s monthly progress and clinical outcomes up to one year of starting therapy were noted. Since the study was restricted to patients’ clinical records assessment and no direct intervention was involved, verbal consent of patients was deemed as sufficient. Confidentiality of patient data was maintained throughout the study. The analysis of data was done by an independent assessor who was discrete from the treating physician. The indicated  Homoeopathic remedy was prescribed in the 30C potency. Patient’s progress was followed up every month.

CONCLUSION
This observational study demonstrated the effectiveness, safety and feasibility of homeopathic remedies in reducing PCOS symptoms in women.

Since PCOS is primarily a metabolic syndrome related to discordant lifestyle and underlying stress, homoeopathy may play an instrumental role in resolving the root cause of this disorder.

  3. Homeopathy may play a role, I disagree!!
    I know that homeopathy has the best cure rates for PCOS. it’s a genetic disorder with genes being discovered.
    Even after diet and exercises, the PCOD persists.
