Medicine mafiyaConstant charges against homeopathy are sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies– Dr Isaac Golden

Kochi:  Dr Isaac Golden, honorary research fellow, faculty of science, Federation University Australia, who is in Kerala to know the use and research being conducted in homeopathy on the invitation of The Institution of Homeopaths Kerala, says that homeopathy has a good following in his country but allopaths question its credibility.

“They always ask for proof to show how homeopathy works. The result the medicine provides does not satisfy them,” he said.

“In fact, the constant charges against homeopathy are sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies worried about the growing influence of homeopathic medicines, which are cheap compared to allopathy and the pharmaceutical companies can’t expect to make big money by selling these medicines as they currently do in allopathy”.

Mr Golden who did research in homeopathic immunisation at Swinburne University, Melbourne, says that both long-term and short-term immunization against a variant of diseases works in homeopathy without any side effects.

“In contrast, vaccinations applied in allopathic system are found to have created side effects and millions of dollars have been given in compensation in this regard worldwide,” he added.

The recent big challenge for homeopathy came in the form of a study report by the National Health and Medicinal Research Council (NH&MRC) in Australia which came out with the finding that there is no evidence to prove that homeopathy works.

“This study was commissioned with prior fixing of the goal to deride homeopathy. It is not a government agency and the team had no homeopathy doctor as member. Big group of allopathic doctors are against homeopathy, so it went on expected lines. They also want to influence the private health insurance companies which is not quite successful,” said Dr Golden.

He said that Ayurveda is yet to be popular in Australia whereas naturopathy has got a lot of followers. There are around 1000 homeopathic practitioners in Australia while there are 3000 naturopaths. According to him, a total of 30,000 people have opted for homeo medicines as an alternative to vaccinations in Australia.

  1. Not a Doctor Golden: “This study was commissioned with prior fixing of the goal to deride homeopathy.”

That’s quite an accusation. Were would I be able to see the irrefutable proof that establishes this?

Not a Doctor Golden: “It is not a government agency and the team had no homeopathy doctor as member.”

Probably because basic science experience is enough to establish quality of methods used in studies.

  2. For a Doctor to be making such firm claims that they would refer to it as a “fact” I’m certain they could provide the very solid evidence to back it up.

I, for one, would love to see this evidence. I’m one of the pro-science supporters that rally against the quackery that is Homeopathy. If there is the possibility of being paid for doing what I currently do for free I would love to get my share.

  3. I would say that Dr Issac Golden is misrepresenting the wider medical community here.

Before bothering to ask for how something works (which is an interesting enough question) it needs to be first established that something works. As the scientific method has been further and further refined to remove experimenter bias from influencing the results of a study it has become very clear that Homeopathy is no more than placebo effect, regression to the mean and confirmation bias.
