Health Awareness Camp at Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College

A Health awareness Camp was organized in The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital under the guidance of Prof Rajat Chattopadhay, Administrator-Principal C.H.M.C&H. Lifestyle disorders have emerged as a global problem and the statistics from Kolkata also raises deep concerns.

Thus a Health awareness camp was conducted on 07.05.18 and 08.05.18 in the College and Hospital premises. The first day was dedicated to Health Camp alone, while the second day was marked by a seminar on areas of contemporary concerns.

Lack of awareness amongst masses is one of the major causes behind the genesis of this problem. Thus an informative leaflet with directions of how to prevent lifestyle disorders was explained and distributed to all the patients visiting the OPD. The patients were also subjected to a free health Check-up on0 7.05.18  where their Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar (Random) were measured; the patients who were found to suffer from any disorder were given customized dietary advice in addition to individualized homoeopathic medicines.

Out of the 300 patients screened a total of 25 patients were found to be both diabetic and hypertensive, a total of 15 patients were found to suffer from isolated hypertension. The ‘at risk’ patients were classified into Mild, Moderate and severe Groups. The patients received Homoeopathic medicines, dietary advice and exercise suggestions and were also recommended a battery of tests depending on the risk groups to which they belonged. This Health awareness camp which we contemplate to continue at regular intervals shall be our first step towards promoting the use of Homoeopathy in prevention of disease.

The Second day was marked by a seminar on ‘ Common Pediatric diseases ‘ by Dr Anindya Kundu MD(Paediatrics), this was followed by a discussion on ‘Homoeopathy in Paediatric Diseases ‘by Dr Rajat Chattopadhay PHD(Hom)  and ‘Skin Disease in Paediatrics’ by Dr T.S.Saha, MD (Hom). The end of the health awareness camp was celebrated in a unique manner by paying tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 157 th Birth anniversary.

The Administrator-Principal thanked all the faculty members, students, internees, housestaffs and non teaching staff of the institution for making the programme a grand success.
