INTRODUCTION :
1. Selection of a particular topic and utility of Indian drugs :
This work is intended for easy reference for students and busy practioneers. The medicines referred here under the heading Indian drugs are less used and also known to students very little. But these remedies are of much therapeutic utility and because of ignorance these remedies are used less commonly. Also these remedies are also mentioned very little in other books. So my work is intended to give an easy reference to these Indian drugs.

2. Merits
As already mentioned above this help an easy reference for students and busy practioneers. By referring this work one can go through the symptoms of each drug system wise and thus helpful for comparing with that of other drugs.

3. Demerits
a. Gradation cannot be mentioned.
b. Less number of drugs are mentioned.
c. Indigenous drugs are widely available in India. But their therapeutic application are less and less known to Homoeopathic physicians.

E. Haemoptysis (Expectoration of blood).

XXIII. Fever.

  1. Dry heat all over the body with great thirst – Abroma augusta (P-1092).
  2. With catarrahal symptoms like influenza and dropsy in children. Continous fever with oedema of hands; legs and face along with diarrhoea – Aegle folia (P-1096).
  3. Chronic fever associated with splenic or hepatic disorders – Aegle folia (P—1096).
  4. Feverish with headache. Chronic fever. Aching pains during fever. Burning in hands and feet -Andersonia (P-1097).
  5. Convalescence after prolonged fever- Andrographis paniculata (P-1098)
  6. Fever with chilliness and heat all over the body; headache with thirst, burning all over the body relieved by cold air and water – Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
  7. Fever comes at 11am then again at 7-8pm,intermittent or remittent fever;disinclined to moved during fever – Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
  8. An excellent remedy in breaking and stopping fevers which appear on alternate days or on every third day with or without malarial infection especially during in autumn – Atista indica (P-1099).
  9. Chill without thirst; heat with intense thirst; fever comes in between 5-10 am and subsides around 3-4am ;fever appears every alternate day. Periodicity is not marked – Atista indica(P-1100).
  10. Grand remedy in chronic fever – Azadiracta indica (P-1100).
  11. Fever with chill or without chill from 4.30 pm and abates from 7.30 pm, glowing heat with burning in various parts of the body even in open air – Azadiracta indeica (P-1100).
  12. Copious sweat especially on forehead, neck, upper part of the body, no sweat on the lower parts of the body commences on the forehead – Azadiracta indica (P-1100).
  13. Indicated in tertian fever – Blumea odorata (P-1103),.
  14. Great value in chronic intermittent fever –Cae4salpinia bonducella (P-1104).
  15. Irregular fevers comes on at any time accompanied by chills and shivering on one day and on the other with hardly any chills. Character of fever is very characteristic – Caesalpinia bonducella (P-1104).
  16. Fever appears between 8-10 am or between 2 and 4 pm. No thirst in afternoon fever but marked thirst during heat in morning fever – Caesalpinia bonducella (P-1104).
  17. Sweat stage lasts for short time. Sweat breaks out over face; chest; neck and shoulder. Fever does not last for more then 6 hours. After fever there is extreme prostration, patient lies down quietly in bed with eyes closed and cannot even talk. Useful in intermittent and remittent fever of malarial origin – Caesalpinia bonducella (P-1105).;
  18. Frequent chills pass up the spine; head hot; body cold cheeks burn like fire – Calotropis gigantean (P-1106)>
  19. Chills return towards bed time even when close to fire, fits of perspiration alternate with chills –Calotropis gigantean (P-1106).
  20. Fever with enlargement of liver and spleen; fever comes in afternoon with burning sensation in eyes and face –Clerodendron infortunatum (P-1109).
  21. Intermittent fever and remittent fever in children with sleepiness; drowsiness and pain all over the body especially over the spine – Desmodium gangeticum (P-1110).
  22. Typhoid, cerebrospinal meningitis. Fever comes on at 7 am with mild chills lasts for 2-3 hours with a burning sensation over face; eyes; hands and feet. Remission of fever with perspiration over the forehead and back parts of hands and feet. Fever returns regularly everyday – Desmodium gangeticum (P-1110)
  23. Fever comes in the morning ranging between 101-103 degree F -Embelia ribes (P-1111).
  24. Chronic fever. A noted fever killer in both acute and chronic malarial fever. As long as the fever lasts burning in the eyes. Kalaazar with hepatomegaly and splenomegaly. Wards off debility after fever.- Gentiana chirata (P—1113).
  25. Cold stage lasts long with nausea and bilious vomiting, no thirst but desire for hot water – Gentiana chirata ( P-1113).
  26. Heat stage lasts for about 3 hours with slight thirst. Sweat after heat stage with little perspiration only on axilla, chest and thighs.- Gentiana chirata (P-1113).
  27. Fever may appear at any time with burning in eyes from its onset and lasts as long as it persists.- Gentiana chirata (P-1113).
  28. Shivering in the afternoon; hands and feet cold amoelirated by rubbing and becomes cold on cessation of rubbing. Profuse sweat – Hydrocotyle asiatica (P-1113).
  29. Malaria associated wit urticaria. With the rise in temperature there is intense itching and urticaria like eruptions which are relieved by cold applications; fever appears in the morning without chill or thirst- Hygrophilia sphinosa (P-1118).
  30. Chill without thirst; dry heat with restlessness; red cheeks ;flushed face and running nose – Justicia adhathoda (P-1121).
  31. Chills every evening with night sweats and also useful in consumption and other lung affections attended with cough and hectic fever – Justicia adhathoda (P—1121).
  32. Useful in intermittent fevers – Leucas aspera (P-1123).
  33. Chills are felt sometimes. Pulse is weak, feeble, face is pale and extremities cold with clammy perspiration – Luffa amara (P-1123).
  34. Chronic malarial fever with dropsy, hepatomegaly and splenomegaly – Luffa bindal (p-1124).
  35. Useful in all fevers with a predominance of bilious symptoms. Insatiable thirst exists before and during chill and heat, nausea may or may not be present; drinking causes bilious vomiting. Sweat not marked. – Nyctanthes arbnortristris (P-1125).
  36. In remittent fever associated with cold, cough or diarrhoea, pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma – Ocimum sanctum (P-1127).
  37. Remittent fever in children during dentition, diarrhoea or worm complaints. Gastric and intestinal catarrah with fever and diarrhoea –Ocimum sanctum (P-1127).
  38. Excellent remedy in influenza and fevers associated with cough and diarrhoea, acute pains all over the body, bone pains; soreness of muscles and severe headache – Ocimum sanctum (P-1128).
  39. Typhoid fever with chilliness, burning sensation all over the body, delirium, drowsiness and comatose condition with key note symptom of tongue and lips – Ocimum sanctum (P-1128).
  40. Intermittent fever comes in afternoon with extreme chilliness; hands and feet become cold , numb tingle and don’t become warm easily. Sensation of extreme heat and flashes of heat during hot stage; burning in palms and soles relieved by a cold breeze and cold washing along with heat; sweat breaks out – Ocimum sanctum (P-1128).
  41. Low forms of fever. Rise of temperature early in the morning with chill, thirst, headache and a burning sensation all over the body. Intensity of fever lessens gradually – Oldenlandia herbacea (P-1129).
  42. Fever either remittent or intermittent coming on with bilious symptoms. Fever appears with greater intensity one day and on the next day it is of a milder character. Bilious vomiting; bilious stools, gastric irritability. Increases the flow of urine and is valuable remedy in nervous depression – Oldenlandia herbacea (P-1128).
  43. Fever during pueperium – Rauwolfia serpentina (P-1130).
  44. Catarrahal fever. A sure preventive against smallpox. Fever with thirst. Aversion to food; burning sensation and pain all over the body – Solanum xaxnthocarpum (P-1130).
  45. Intermittent fever and all fevers – Tiniospora cordifolia (P-1133).
  46. A tonic patient is extremely weak owing to repeated attacks of fever and exhausting seminal emissions –Tinospora cordifolia (P-1133).
  47. Acute or chronic malarial fever, temperature rises in the afternoon
  48. which causes shivering. Bilious vomiting with thirst and headache. Chronic slow fever with history of gonorrhoea and weakness due to seminal loss – Tinospora cordifolia (P-1133)
  49. Bad effects of quinine which causes continuation of fever with burning sensation in hands, feet and face, jaundice, loss of appetite and headache – Tinospora cordifolia (P-1133).
  50. Chronic and acute malarial fever and kala azar – Trichosanthes dioica (P-1133).
  51. Fever comes around 11 am- 12 noon with chills during fever, burning sensation all over the body, rise of temperature with headache and burning thirst – Trichosanthes dioica (P-1133).
  52. Acute fever associated with vomiting; nausea and a constant waterbrash. Chronic fever with hepatosplenomegaly and jaundice, chronic malarial fevers and kala azar—Trichosanthes dioica (P-1135).
  53. Fever of short duration 1 day and of greater intensity the next day. Rise or fall in temperature is directly proportional to headache –Trichosanthes dioica (P-1135).
  54. Used in all kinds of fever with predominance of bilious symptoms. Headache, waterbrash, nausea are key note symptoms for its administration – Trichosanthes dioica (P-1135).
  55. Typhoid – Ficus religiosa (P-1112), Ocimum sanctum (P-1126).

XXIV. Anaemia, Debility, Weakness, Weariness, Fainting, Prostration and state of collapse .

  1. Debility. Great uneasiness with feeling of extreme prostration and unable to do any work and disinclined to work – Abroma augusta (P-1091).
  2. Great loss of flesh, rapid emaciation and parasitic weakness – Abroma augusta (P-1091).
  3. Burning sensation all over the body –Abroma augusta (P-1091)
  4. General debility – Andersonia (P-1096), Andrographis paniculata (P-1097).
  5. General burning sensation in palms. Washes hands and feet with cold water in order to relieve the burning sensation – Andrographis paniculata (P-1097).
  6. Burning sensation all over the body with thirsty and desire for cold things. Extreme weakness; restlessness and sleepiness – Trichosanthes dioica (P-1134)

XXV. Constitutional diseases and miscellaneous diseases.

  1. An excellent remedy for dropsy and beriberi with decreased urine. Acts as a mild stimulant to the intestinal mucous membrane – Aegle folia (P-1095).
  2. Efficacious in kalazar of infants – Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
  3. Scurvy and scorbutic teeth – Atista indica (P-1098)
  4. Leprosy and gonorrhoea – Azadiracta indica (P-1102)
  5. Beriberi, dropsy, gonorrhoea and kalazar – Boerhaavia diffusa (P-1103)
  6. Pneumonic tuberculosis; leprosy and syphilis – Calotropis gigantean (P-1105).
  7. Sunstroke – Cephalandra indica (P-1108).
  8. Scabies, secondary syphilis and gleet – Cynodon dactylon (P-1110).
  9. Wry neck – Desmodium gangeticum (P-1110)
  10. Employed in beginning of phthsis with haemoptysis and arterial haemorrhage –Acalypha indica (P-1093).
  11. Gonorrhoea, dropsy, leprosy, secondary syphilis; elephantiasis and gout – Hydrocotyle asiatica (p-1116).
  12. Skin and female generative organs are the chief centers of attacks. In intestinal inflammation and cellular proliferation there is hypertrophy and inflammation of hypertrophy and induration of connective tissue and scleroderma – Hydrocotyle asiatica (P-1116)
  13. Sensation of warmth in the scorbulis cordis is the characteristic feature of the remedy – Calotropis gigantea (P-1105)
  14. Decreases obesity while the muscle mars become harder and firmer-Calotrophics gigantea (P-1105)
  15. Kalaazar with hepato splenomegaly-Genhana chirate(P-1113)
  16. Anasarca, dropsy, gonorrhoea, rheumatism-Hygrophilia sphinosa(P-1118)

XVI Injuries, burns, bites, stings, fractures

  1. Bad effects of dog and snake bites-Achyranthes aspera (P-1095)
  2. Bites of venomous animals –Boerhaavia diffusa (P-1103)
  3. Bleeding from cuts or wounds and also be used internally and externally-Cynodon dactylon (P-1110)
  4. Poisonous snake bites- Gymnema sylvestra (P-1114)
  5. Usually in case of snake bites, mother tincture is applied both internally and externally, 10-15 drops per dose at 15-20 minutes interval, till the patient gets better—Leucas aspera (P-1123)
  6. In the case of scorpion bites, its action is noticed, the burning pains disappears within a short period—Leucas aspera (P-1123)
  7. In fractures, pain all over the body due to fall and all sorts of ecchymosis, action of this drug in this case is supreme –Terminalia arjuna (P-1131)
