South Asian Evidence summit

South Asia, a region of strategic importance, accommodates nearly one-fifth of the world’s population. In spite of being the fastest growing and most dynamic region of the world, it faces public health and development challenges, both demographically and geographically. Growing health inequities, political conflicts, women and children safety issues, disasters, migrant health issues, ineffective policy engagement are some of the major public health issues.
Bearing this in mind, the theme of this evidence summit focusses on the public health and development issues of South Asia.
PHESA (www.phesa.manipal.edu) is a research organisation which aims to meet the public health evidence needs of the South Asian region. Starting out as the South Asian satellite of Cochrane Public Health (http://ph.cochrane.org/), it has now grown into an international network with global collaborations. It fosters an environment which inspires new ideas, debate, change and innovation; with a focus on networking, and evidence and capacity building.
This conference, a four-day event, will bring together an interdisciplinary group of professionals, academicians, stakeholders, researchers and students. It will serve as a common platform where professionals can engage in knowledge transfer and inter-professional collaborations. There will be a pre-conference workshop on the 5th of January.
The summit will have scientific presentations, plenary talks, invited/ guest speakers, poster presentations and workshops.
We invite abstracts for paper and poster presentations addressing public health and development in South Asia. The abstract must not exceed 300 words and must highlight the topic, methods and findings of the study.
Abstracts can address themes like health communication, philosophy, anthropology, health systems andpolicy, bioethics, health economics, implementation research, public health planning, infectious and non-communicable diseases,demographics and population sciences, dental public health,health informatics, social and behavioural science, environmental issues, disaster management, methodological innovations, etc.
Applicants from all disciplines are invited to apply and can send their abstracts on or before the 21st of November, 2016 to phesases2017@gmail.com
Abstracts will be reviewed and notification of acceptance will be sent to the authors by the 30th of November, 2016.
