Which subject and college is the best for doing PG in Homoeopathy?

Dr Mansoor Ali

This article will give you information about how to select the best college and subject for doing postgraduation in homoeopathy including stipend structure across India

A lot of phone calls and emails regarding this issue

Correct Answer: Select a subject which you are interested, like to learn and excel

Currently, we have PG in : Materia Medica, Repertory, Organon of medicine, Practice of Medicine, Pharmacy, Pediatrics, psychiatry

If you like to excel in Paediatrics – opt that, study well and become a good practitioner. Similarly Materia Medica, PM whatever it maybe.

Regrading Job as a teacher
Concerned subject PG is required in Materia Medica, Repertory, Organon of medicine, Practice of Medicine, Pharmacy

All other Subjects (7) like Anatomy, Physiology – PG in any subject is sufficient.

Even though Materia Medica and Organon are teaching from first BHMS to Final BHMS – the number of teachers as same as that of Repertory & PM.

Postgraduate colleges have additional 2 more faculties.

Remember no Psychiatry or Pediatrics departments in majority homoeopathy colleges across India – especially in Govt sector. Moreover, you need to collect equivalency certificates from concerned university for applying to PSC teaching jobs in PM departments.

Which college is better?
Select the reputed colleges by discussing with the existing PG students of that college. You will get the ground reality. Try to opt for colleges with good IPD and OPD. Otherwise, PG will become a mere theoretical exercise and waste of time.

Eg. National Institute of Homoeopathy Kolkata – they have the largest number of OPD patients in India. Patients even from the neighbouring states coming to see the doctors. Students from across India and abroad studying there. A versatile campus.

Govt or Private College is better?
Both are good. Select the college which has good faculty at the full-time level. We know many private colleges – they are far better than the Govt Colleges in that state.

Stipend
If you would like to get more stipend. Opt the colleges in that state.

  • Nehru Homoeopathy Medical College Delhi : First Year : Rs 86413, Second year onwards: 1,01125
  • NIH Kolkatta & NHRIMH Kerala : 51,072
  • Kerala : 30,000
  • Madhya Pradesh: 41K, 42K, 43K
  • Andhra Pradesh: 35K, 37K, 39K
  • Uttar Pradesh Level-10, 56100 + DA + HRA = 73000/- PM
  • West Bengal: 1st year 44534, 2nd year 47959  3rd year 51385. This will be increased as per DA

No stipend in Private Homoeopathy Colleges even in Govt quota admission

Difference between PG & UG
Remember PG teaching is entirely different from UG teaching. No regal classes as in BHMS. The output depends on how you are working – and not the reputation of the college. You have only two exams in 3 year – not like an exam every six months as in BHMS. So you will get enough time to acquire clinical knowledge and skills.

Always remember the purpose of PG is three. 1. Professional development 2. Creating Good teachers 3. Developing research aptitude

Never opt a college merely based on the stipend. You will be a loser. After 3 years you have to start from a big zero. No clinical skill or knowledge. Nothing more than a BHMS

Go through the syllabus of concerned university. Since CCH syllabus in only an outline. Universities like KUHS, RGUHS developed the good syllabus for PG.

Last but not least – check the affiliation status of the college with Central Council of Homoeopathy. Also, check whether their courses included in the second schedule of CCH. Otherwise, you can’t apply for any Govt jobs
