In a decisive move to uphold the integrity and ethics of medical practice in Kerala, the Kerala Medical Council has issued a strong warning targeting unqualified practitioners and baseless critics of Homoeopathy. This step aims to protect the public from misleading healthcare practices and ensure that only certified professionals deliver medical care in the state.
Action against unjustified criticism
In a rare and bold move, the Council also addressed the issue of unnecessary or defamatory criticism targeted at homoeopathic systems and practitioners. Those found indulging in such activities — either online or offline — may face disciplinary proceedings. The Council emphasized that criticism must be constructive, not derogatory or driven by personal or commercial motives.
Crackdown on Unqualified Practice
The Council reiterated that only those with recognized and council-approved medical qualifications are permitted to practice medicine. Registered Homoeopathy practitioners can treat all types of disease, including Skin and Cosmetological complaints. (Recently, the allopathic dermatologist association issued a press release stating that doctors of other systems can’t treat skin and cosmetological complaints.)
Misleading claims in ads & social media under scrutiny
Another serious concern raised by the Council is the exaggerated or misleading treatment claims being circulated via advertisements and social media. Medical professionals have been cautioned to refrain from making false promises or unsupported claims regarding the success of treatment modalities. These practices not only misguide the public but also tarnish the credibility of the entire healthcare system.
Display Only Approved Qualifications
Doctors and medical institutions are now strictly advised to display only the qualifications approved by the Medical Council on their boards, letterheads, visiting cards, and other official documents. Any attempt to misrepresent oneself through unrecognized degrees or honorary titles will not be tolerated.
