Homoeopathic Management of Verruca Vulgaris (Flat Warts): A Case Report

Abstract
Verruca vulgaris is a common benign skin condition caused by human papillomavirus, often resistant to conventional treatment. A 21-year-old male presented with multiple papular eruptions on the face and left elbow for one year. Based on totality of symptoms, with emphasis on mental generals, Lachesis 200 was prescribed. Marked improvement (≈95%) was observed within one month. This case highlights the effectiveness of individualized homoeopathic treatment.

Introduction
Verruca vulgaris is characterized by benign epidermal proliferation caused by HPV infection. Flat warts commonly affect the face and extremities and may persist for prolonged periods. Conventional treatments often result in recurrence. Homoeopathy, through individualized prescribing, offers a holistic and effective approach.

Chief Complaints

  • Multiple papular eruptions on face and left elbow since 1 year
  • Left side predominance
  • Painful
  • No itching or bleeding
  • Brown, smooth lesions with irregular margins

History of Present Illness
Eruptions first appeared on the forehead and gradually spread to the left cheek, elbow, and chin over one year. Previous homoeopathic treatment (Thuja, Nitric acid) gave no relief. Use of ayurvedic oil aggravated the condition, increasing number and pain of lesions

Past History

  • Pneumonia at age 2 years
  • Recurrent acne during adolescence

Family History

  • Mother: Diabetes mellitus
  • Others: Healthy

Physical Generals

  • Appetite: Good; desires warm food
  • Thirst: Increased; prefers cold water
  • Desire: Salty
  • Aversion: Sweets → headache and nausea
  • Stool: Occasionally constipated
  • Perspiration: Generalized; more on upper body
  • Thermal: Hot patient
  • Sleep: Disturbed when stressed

Mental Generals

  • Talkative
  • Irritable; anger from contradiction
  • Dislikes domination
  • Suspicious; does not trust easily
  • Revengeful thoughts
  • Emotional sensitivity related to father

Examination

  • Built: Thin
  • Gait: Normal
  • Vitals: Within normal limits
  • No pallor, cyanosis, clubbing, lymphadenopathy

 Diagnosis : Verruca vulgaris (flat warts)

Totality of Symptoms

  1. Left-sided eruptions
  2. Aggravation from external application
  3. Intolerance to sweets → headache and nausea
  4. Talkative
  5. Anger from contradiction
  6. Suspicious nature
  7. Revengeful disposition

Miasmatic Analysis

Predominantly Sycotic miasm:

  1. Overgrowth (warts)
  2. Suspicious nature
  3. Fixed thoughts

Result

Discussion

Prescription was based on mental generals, which are of highest value in homoeopathy. Lachesis was selected due to:

  • Talkativeness
  • Anger from contradiction
  • Suspicion
  • Left-sided affinity
  • Aggravation from external applications

Initial aggravation followed by improvement confirms correct remedy selection.

Conclusion
Individualized homoeopathic treatment can effectively manage verruca vulgaris. Emphasis on mental generals and miasmatic background ensures deep and lasting cure.
