A New Dawn in Homoeopathy: NCH releases draft of Six Super Speciality Courses

In a historic leap forward, the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) has unveiled the draft regulations for six Super Speciality (DM) courses in Homoeopathy—a first in the annals of Homoeopathic education. This visionary move not only elevates the academic standards of the system but also marks the beginning of a new era of specialization, research, and clinical excellence in Homoeopathy.

For the first time ever, Homoeopathy postgraduates will be able to specialize in specific high-demand medical fields through Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Homoeopathy in the following areas:

  • DM (Hom) Medical Oncology
  • DM (Hom) Clinical Rheumatology
  • DM (Hom) Pediatric Psychiatry
  • DM (Hom) Pulmonary Medicine
  • DM (Hom) Clinical Immunology
  • DM (Hom) Endocrinology

These courses are structured to be 3-year full-time residency-based programs and promise to equip Homoeopathic physicians with advanced clinical, diagnostic, research, and teaching competencies.

Admission & Eligibility
Admission to these programs will be strictly merit-based, through a uniform All India Homoeopathy Super Speciality Entrance Test. Candidates must have completed MD in Homoeopathy, preferably in relevant subjects. However, there’s a notable oversight—the draft does not include MD in Repertory and Organon as feeder qualifications, which has raised valid concerns within the academic community.

Who Can Guide?

  • Guide: A DM-qualified Homoeopath or a modern medicine superspecialist from a recognized superspecialty hospital (via MoU with the institution).
  • Co-guide: Homoeopathy Professors with at least 5 years’ experience as MD guides can serve as co-guides or examiners.

This multidisciplinary mentorship model ensures rigorous clinical exposure and research training. However, the feasibility of qualified guides seems to be an issue in certain states like Kerala.

Institutional Requirements
Institutions aspiring to offer these programs must comply with strict infrastructure and manpower norms, including:

  • Dedicated OPDs, IPDs, and labs (can be outsourced through MoUs)
  • Mandatory NABH accreditation
  • Biometric attendance tracking
  • Stipend capacity of ₹1,00,000 per month for superspecialty residents
  • Submission of detailed compliance reports to NCH

 Why This Matters
The launch of these courses could be the turning point that Homoeopathy has long awaited—bringing it in sync with global trends of specialization and integrative healthcare. Yet, the system must ensure inclusive feeder qualifications, realistic infrastructure expectations, and wide professional recognition for these degrees.
