ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age (18- 45yrs). There is a formation of cysts in the ovaries with irregular menstruation, hirsutism, weight gain, acne and which may lead to infertility. The Rotterdam 2003 criteria defines PCOS as incidence of any two of 3 key criteria namely, oligo ovulation or anovulation, hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovaries. In India, the incidence of Polycystic. Ovarian Syndrome is on the hike, nearly 35% of women suffer from it.
AIM: To assess the effectiveness of Constitutional medicine in comparison with Oophorinum in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
OBJECTIVES: 1) To assess the effectiveness of Constitutional medicine in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. 2) To assess the effectiveness of Oophorinum in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. 3) To compare the effectiveness of Constitutional medicine and Oophorinum in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
METHODS : This is a comparative clinical study, 60 cases were selected by purposive sampling method and Subjects were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Cases will be recorded in the standardized case Performa prepared for the topic and all the cases were studied, analyzed with the reference from materia medica, repertory and treated with constitutional medicine or Oophorinum according to the totality of the symptoms and follow-up were set up in each cases. For assessment of the clinical status before and after the treatment, size or volume of ovaries were noted. Paired t test and Z test were used to analyze the result.
RESULT: The most common age group affected was 18-22 years (40%). In this study, Out of 30 subjects in Group 1, 12 subjects (40%) recovered, 15 (50%) and 3 subjects (10%) did not showed any improvement. Out of 30 subjects in Group 2, 2subjects (6.67%) recovered, 7 subjects (23.33%) improved and 21 subjects (70%) did not showed any improvement.
CONCLUSION: This comparative study proves that the constitutional medicine is effective than Oophorinum in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
