Government planning for short-term bridge courses for Ayush doctors

TelemedicineThe Union health ministry is contemplating providing short-term bridge courses for doctors of alternative medicines, particularly of Ayurveda, Unani, homoeopathy and other forms of traditional medical practices to address the shortage of doctors in the country.

The minister was interacting with mediapersons in Delhi through a video conference on Monday.  Vardhan said even as the government has asked the district hospitals across the country with more than 300 beds to include medical education facility, the requirement of doctors still remains huge.

“There is no denying the fact that population coverage by doctors in India is abysmally poor and immediate remedial measures are needed to implement national health schemes,” he said, clarifying that the laws would be amended to utilize the services of traditional therapies and their experts by according them some formal courses and regulating the practices.

Responding to another query about rural healthcare being primarily in the clutches of quacks, the minister said the matter was sensitive and required regulations to the same effect.

  2. Dear AYUSH colleagues,
This is to remind U that a clinician is one who is capable of identifying a sick individual and having expertise enough to help to return back the status of health within the reasonable time frame as applicable. The philosophy & money spending for NHP is for the preservation of the quality of life of the ailing population of our nation at least in the selective disease conditions which have been included in the NHPs.Each NHP is a full proof & unquestionablly effective work load for the clinicians of our nation. So,please do participate wholeheartedly and claim to say– I have served my nation in my own way………

  4. Dear Dr. S.K. Vashisht if an allopathic practitioner doesn’t become quack by prescribing homeopathic or herbal medicine then why it would happen when a Ayush doctor will prescribe allopathic medicines. It will give broader vision and exposure to AYUSH doctors. I believe its a good initiate and we all should welcome it rather than condemning. However AYUSH doctors should maintain their individuality and should stick to their pathy in longer term and use this opportunity to see the other side of the river and then come back to their side finally.

  5. This work could be better managed by the para medical staff & so called health workers , than Doctors from Ayush dept, these Doctors may better utilised for what they are qualified than distribute, and inject allopathic medicines .and make them trained quacks
