Abstract
Introduction: Pityriasis alba is a common benign skin disorder characterized by hypopigmented, ill-defined patches, commonly seen in children and adolescents (1,10). Though self-limiting, it often causes cosmetic concern.
A 24-year-old female presented with complaints of hypopigmented scaly eruption on the face (left cheek) persisting for several weeks. The lesions were associated with mild itching and cosmetic concern, affecting her confidence. She was otherwise healthy with no significant past history of chronic illness or systemic disease. There was no relevant family history of similar dermatological conditions.
During detailed case taking, marked mental and emotional symptoms were elicited. The patient reported significant irritability, weakness of memory and a tendency to suppress anger. Additionally, she had an intense craving for sweet foods and profuse perspiration. Based on the totality of symptoms, an individualized homoeopathic approach was considered. The patient provided informed consent for the use of her clinical details for academic purposes.
Discussion
Pityriasis alba is commonly associated with dry skin and environmental factors (3,10). Emotional factors also play a role in some patients.
Staphysagria is indicated in cases with: Suppressed emotions, sensitivity and skin manifestations (5,7)
The case showed steady improvement following remedy selection based on individualization (8).
Conclusion
This case highlights the role of individualized homoeopathic treatment in managing pityriasis alba acutely considering the altered generals. Staphysagria proved effective in achieving complete recovery without recurrence.
Further large-scale studies are required for scientific validation.
