Fractures are a common orthopedic condition affecting individuals across all age groups. Prompt recognition and appropriate management are essential to prevent complications such as deformity, infection, or long-term disability. As a Complementary approaches, including homoeopathy, for enhancing recovery and supporting overall patient well- being. This article explores the role of homoeopathic remedies in managing fracture emergencies.

LITERATURE AND REVIEW:

DEFINITION:

  • A fracture occurs when there is a break in the continuity of a bone due to fall,excessive force, trauma, or underlying pathology such as osteoporosis or bone tumors.

CLASSIFICATION:

  • Types of fracture according to cause, pattern, alignment
  • Based on skin integrity
  1. Simple or closed fracture: Bone is broken but skin remains
  2. Compound or open fracture: Bone piercing through the skin exposing it to air and infection risk .
  • Based on fracture line
  1. Transverse fracture: A straight horizontal break across the
  2. Oblique fracture: A slanted break across the
  3. Spiral fracture: Caused by a twisting force, producing a spiral break. 4.Comminuted fracture: Bone is shattered into three or more pieces.
  4. Segmental fracture : Bone is broken in two places leaving a segment of bone.
  • Based on bone condition
  1. Incomplete fracture: Bone is cracked but not broken
  2. Complete fracture: Bone is broken into two or more
  3. Hairlaine fracture: Small,thin crack caused by repetitive force or Without Dislocation of bone.

CLINICAL FEATURES:

SYMPTOMS:

  • Severe pain especially when trying to move or bear weight
  • Tenderness
  • Numbness or Tingling – if nerves are affected

  • Bruising or Discoloration due to internal bleeding

MANAGEMENT:

  • Immobilization : Use a splint to prevent movement of the fractured bone
  • Ice : Apply ice to reduce swelling and pain
  • Compression : Use a bandage if bleeding to reduce swelling
  • Elevation : limb to minimize swelling
  • Prevention of Complication : Delayed Union or Non Union
