Teaching Homeopathy using Evidence Based Homeopathy

Teaching Homeopathy using Evidence-Based Homeopathy

Dr Michel Van Wassenhoven, Belgium

Abstract:  Teaching Homeopathy is commonly based on the presentation of proving and materia medica.

Even if more and more pathogenetic trials are performed using a blinded placebo control group, reference to results of Evidence Based Clinical Verification of Homeopathic Symptoms is certainly not yet very common. Since a few years these results are published regularly in books and in homeopathic or conventional journals.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the use of these results is pertinent and useful for teaching homeopathy to students. As example we will consider the differential diagnosis between the most common Natrium salts. The differentiation between Natrium Arsenicum, Natrium Carbonicum, Natrium Muriaticum, Natrium Phosphoricum and Natrium Sulfuricum based on the correlation between the results of the prescriptions of these remedies and the presence or not of the specific proving symptoms is very easy and it brings much more accurateness in the prescription of these remedies for these unique patients.

Our starting point is the clinical verification of the symptoms used during 20 years of practice for the homeopathic prescription compared with the obtained results of the intake of the prescribed remedies. For the often prescribed remedies, the level of evidence is already very high for several symptoms and most of these symptoms are coming from proving, as such it is also a demonstration of the validity of the “law of similar” and taking all associated symptoms together it is also a prove for the “globality rule” in homeopathy.

The conclusion of this paper is that the use of Evidence Based Clinical Verification of Homeopathic Symptoms is certainly an important improvement for teaching Homeopathy and for a better confidence in future prescription for each student and each teacher. New evidence based repertories is a challenge for next years.
