Bihar Human Rights Commission summoned registrar of Homoeopathy Medical Board

PATNA: The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has summoned the state Ayush director and the registrar of Bihar State Homoeopathy Medical Board (BSHMB) to appear before the commission on May 30 in connection with alleged non-registration of Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) graduates and denying medical practice to homeopath doctors.

According to a complaint filed with BHRC, Muzaffarpur resident Nitesh Kumar said he obtained the BHMS degree from Muzaffarpur Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital in the 2011 and his application for temporary registration was submitted by the college principal to BSHMB in February 2012. “However, even after completing internship, Kumar and his batchmates are being denied a permanent registration by the BSHMB,” BHRC member Neelmani said.

The commission sought a response from the BSHMB registrar, who said, “Temporary registration is a must before internship course after the BHMS exam and only 381 students out of 611 who passed out in July 2011 have been given temporary registration so far.” However, as per a recent circular by the Central Homeopathy Council (CHC), New Delhi, provisional registration of students should be done within seven days of applying, failing which the students may be allowed to start compulsory internship by the college authorities.

According to Neelmani, “The BSHMB registrar claimed he sought clear directions from the state health department on the CHC circular, but any decision in this regard is yet to be taken.” Thus, the BHRC has summoned the state Ayush director and the registrar of BSHMB on May 30 with an action taken report in the matter.[Source]
