ABSTRACT
Background
Tinea corporis is a common superficial dermatophyte infection characterised by annular erythematous lesions, pruritus, and an advancing raised border. Although diagnosis is primarily clinical, potassium hydroxide (KOH) examination can provide mycological support. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) is a validated tool for assessing the impact of dermatological conditions on quality of life.
Case Presentation
A 49-year-old male presented with a one-month history of itching, burning, and reddish annular eruptions involving the bilateral axillae and lower abdomen, aggravated at night and during perspiration. Clinical examination revealed well-defined raised margins with central clearing, and KOH examination of skin scrapings was positive for fungal elements, supporting the diagnosis of tinea corporis. Based on the characteristic local symptoms and their modalities, Chrysarobinum 30C was prescribed. The patient was followed up over two subsequent visits, with clinical findings and DLQI documented.
Outcome
At the first follow-up, improvement in the documented symptoms was noted, although reddish eruptions persisted. At the final documented follow-up, the active eruptions were no longer observed, with residual blackish discoloration over the previously affected areas. The DLQI score decreased from 8 at baseline to 6 at the final follow-up. Post-treatment KOH examination was not performed; therefore, microbiological clearance could not be confirmed.
Conclusion
This case documents clinical improvement in a KOH-confirmed case of tinea corporis following individualised homoeopathic management with Chrysarobinum 30C, accompanied by an improvement in the patient’s reported quality of life. As this is a single case without post-treatment mycological confirmation, the findings cannot establish treatment efficacy or fungal eradication. Further systematic studies with objective mycological assessment and longer follow-up are warranted.
