National workshop on rhuematological disorders by regional research institute(H) at Gudivada
On 27 to 29 December 2017
Venue : Hotel Indira Grand, Gudivada
Organised by : regional research institute (H) Gudivada
Introduction :
The global burden of disease study reveals that the Rheumatological Disorders or Muskulo Skeletal (MSK) Disorders are the 2nd most common cause of disability worldwide, measured by the Years Lived with Disability (YLDs) with Low Back Ache pain being the most frequent condition.  Disability due to MSK disorders was estimated to have increased by 45% from 1990 to 2010, particularly Osteoarthritis (OA) is expected to rise continuously due to increased obesity, sedentary life and aging population.  The Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) has estimated and announced that 54.40 million US adults are suffering from Arthritis & other Rheumatic conditions equating to about 25% of the population.  National health survey conducted in the adult Portuguese population to estimate the National prevalence of Rheumatic and Muskulo Skeletal Diseases (RMDs) and to determine their impact on health related quality of life (HRQoL), Physical function, Anxiety and depression revealed that the RMDs are the most common chronic non-communicable diseases.  The survey revealed that the prevalence of Low backache (26.4%), Peri articular disease (15.8%), OA – Knee (12.4%), Osteoporosis (10.2%), OA – Hand (8.7%) OA – Hip (2.9%), Spondylo Arthritis (1.6%), Gout (1.3%), Rheumatoid Arthritis (0.7%), SLE (0.1%), Fibromyalgia (1.7%).  RMDs patients have poorer quality of life, higher health consumption and significant mental health impairment when compared to non RMDs subjects, emphasizing the burden of RMDs and need for increasing RMDs awareness.
In India, in the year 1981, WHO and International League Associations (ILAR) conducted a special study for Rheumatolgical disorders popularly known as COPCORD (Community Oriented Program for Control of Rheumatic diseases) conducted in a rural community for knowing their prevalence and risk factors revealed that 18.5% of the adults are suffering from Rheumatological complaints out of 4092 adults.  In another survey conducted in the region around Jammu, out of 1024 adults surveyed, 245 (23.9%) were found to have Rheumatological disorders, the most common being were LBA (34.7%) and OA (24.9%), Unclassified Rheumatic diseases (17.9%), Soft Tissue Rheumatism (17.9%) and RA (0.8%).  Results of these both the epidemiological surveys in India appear to be similar.  Although, the definite statistics of Rheumatological disorders unavailable in India, the similar global trends are occurring.
Rheumatology has been a neglected subspecialty in India.  A staggering patient load, inadequate Rheumatology specialists, therapeutic inadequacy, etc. are some of the critical challenges of Rheumatological care in India.
Most of the Rheumatological / Musculo Skeletal disorders being treated in conventional medicine have their own limitations in the management & outcome and are very much costly.  The Homoeopathic intervention has got its own therapeutic potentials in the management of various Rheumatological disorders.  Many occasions have shown that the multidisciplinary approach of management of these diseases is going to have significant results with the combined approach of Rheumatologists, Orthopedic surgeons, Physiotherapists, Yoga experts, AYUSH system experts including Homoeopathy.
Homoeopathic literature has got very good number of drugs for various Rheumatological disorders and the unique Constitutional approach of Homoeopathy is very much relevant in the treatment of the Rheumatological disorders which are having Constitutional impact on the individuals like auto-immune Rheumatological disorder Rheumatoid Arthritis, Arthropathies, etc.  The ultra high diluted Homoeopathic medicines are absolutely free from the side effects and are very much cost effective.
In the 2 – Day workshop, the targeted participants will be much more benefitted for updating their knowledge in the management of Rheumatological disorders.  An important focus of this 2 – Day workshop is the lectures of a World Renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr.  John Ebnezer, Padma Shri & Dr. BC Roy Awardee, who pioneered the concept of Wholistic Orthopedics with new treatment methods of non-operative, low cost and very much effective methods for total Knee restoration, Rehabilitation therapy for Osteoarthritis, Low backache and Neck pain.  These therapeutic modules are based on the original research conducted by Dr. John Ebnezer with excellent results and are an integrated non-pharmacological therapy.  This work was presented at various International & National Scientific Forums and was published in International Indexed Journals.  In addition, the whole spectrum of Rheumatological disorders diagnosis and management will be dealt by the experts from Modern medicine, Homoeopathy, Physiotherapy & Yoga.  The participants will have a wonderful opportunity to learn and become an expert in the management of Rheumatological disorders.
