INTRODUCTION:
Hamamelis virginica – the Witch Hazel, is a homoeopathic therapeutic agent well known for its action on the venous system. It is also known as the Aconite of veins. This remedy has been clinically abused in conditions like varicose veins and haemorrhoids. Yet the pathogenesis of this remedy at the level of mind is being overlooked in our Materia Medica. Boericke has no mind section under this remedy in his Materia Medica , Kent has forgotten to mention this remedy in his Materia Medica, Nash has not mentioned any mind symptom under this drug ,Clarke has described the mind of Hamamelis in four to five symptoms.

However, from the knowledge of repertory it is found that hamamelis has extensive mind symptoms which is unknown to most of the homoeopaths. Schroyen’s Synthesis-9.0 gives 273 mind rubrics of Hamamelis. It is essential to study the miasmatic evolution of the remedies in order that we know what symptoms and rubrics can be given more importance at what stage.

Listed below are the tri- miasmatic evolution of mind of Hamamelis virginica.

CONCLUSION:
The above information reveals that Hamamelis is basically a remedy with high esteem and is haughty, concerned about social position and desires to be respected, the lack of which will lead to the pathological expressions of the mind symptoms. This remedy has affections mainly at the intellectual sphere of the mind.

The above study also gives inference that many expressions of mind in Hamamelis are of syphilitic nature. Hence, we can conclude that Hamamelis can be prescribed not only by organoleptic approach but also considered in constitutional approach of prescription.
