Trivandrum Ayush centre will be upgraded as hospital

The Ayush Holistic Centre at Poonthura will be upgraded to a 10-bed hospital, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

The centre, which began as the State’s first Ayush Holistic Centre in February last year, had Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Siddha clinics, the services of which had been used by over 40,000 people so far.

Dr K Beena, additional secretary, Ayush department said that the concept of integrated medicine is gaining huge popularity. “Such initiatives are meant to popularise traditional medicine. We plan to create a give-and-take situation and at the same time ensure more choices for the patients,” said Dr Beena. She added that improved infrastructure always attracts people and if integrated medicine could be provided at the same standards as offered by allopathy, there could be great scope for development.

The multi-level new hospital complex at Poonthura is being constructed by Kerala coastal development corporation. The Siddha hospital at Vallakadavu which has been in a bad shape of years will also be revamped. The hospital has been functioning in a dilapidated building and number of patients at the hospital had dropped by huge numbers over the last few years. As per the new project, the hospital will be shifted to another building which will be built at a cost of Rs 55 lakh.  [Source]
