Karnataka Ayush dept asks Union govt to withhold appointment of DC

The Karnataka directorate of Ayush has approached the Union ministry of health, department of Ayush to withhold the appointment of drugs controller as the controlling authority of the Karnataka directorate of Ayush.

In a communiqué to Dr VM Katoch, joint advisor, department of Ayush and Member of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Technical Advisory Board (ASUDTAB), Vijaykumar Gogi,  director, Karnataka directorate of Ayush, has asked the government to hold back the order.

The Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Technical Advisory Board and Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Drugs Consultative Committee (ASUDCC) are statutory bodies under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act to advise the Central and State governments on technical matters and for securing uniformity in administration across India. However, Karnataka government has still gone ahead to issue a notification HFW:310:310:PIM:310 dated September 7, 2014 to assign powers of controlling authority to the state drugs control department which will now be in-charge of the administration of the Directorate of Ayush licensing and sanctioning of prosecution during violations, stated Gogi in his note.

“Karnataka government did not appoint an allopathic licensing authority for ASU drugs between 1975 and 2003 because there was no rule prescribing qualification for the same. But the director of Ayush irrespective of his qualification was the licensing authority. The qualification for licensing authority came in with Rule 162 in 2003. Similar administrative policy is also good for Controlling Authority for ASU drugs till such time the rule is made by ASUDTAB,” noted Gogi in his letter.[Source]
