Sub: Exclusion of AYUSH systems from NUHM projects- concerns reg;

Sir,

The recently formed National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) to provide health care aimed mainly to people dwelling in slums, street children, rag pickers etc is a novel idea. But at the same time, it is quite disturbing to see that the entire AYUSH stream of medical systems is excluded from the project. While taking into account the magnitude of population coming under the scheme, it is quite clear that modern medicine alone could not effectively provide the services envisioned in NUHM.

Everyone knows that certain category of diseases is managed better with AYUSH systems than modern medicine, that too with a fraction of the cost.

So we strongly recommend reconsidering the decision to limit NUHM to modern medicine alone and instead to include AYUSH systems of medicine also to provide much better, wholesome health care to common people of our country.
